Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how FamilyBudget (“the App,”
“we,” “us”) handles information when you use the FamilyBudget mobile
application for Android. FamilyBudget is a personal budgeting app operated by
Holos (package com.holos.family_budget).
1. Summary
- Financial data stays on your device: balances, transactions, and category sorts are kept in an encrypted on-device vault. We do not operate a cloud money ledger or a server database of your financial ledger.
- Sign-in: We use Firebase Authentication (Google) so the App can identify you—not to store your bank ledger on our servers. We recommend Google 2-Step Verification; the App also offers an optional app PIN as a second factor on your device.
- Bank linking: The App uses Plaid exclusively to retrieve account and transaction information you authorize. FamilyBudget does not use any other bank-linking provider.
- Your rights: You can disconnect banks, delete all on-device data in Settings, and email support for identity cleanup help.
- We do not sell your personal or financial information.
2. Information we process
2.1 Account & identity
When you sign in, we process identity information through Firebase Authentication (Google), which may include your email address, display name, and provider user ID. This information is used to sign you into the App and protect access to your session.
2.2 Financial information (on device)
Financial product data—including account names and balances, transactions (amounts, merchants, dates), and your budget category assignments—is stored locally on your device in encrypted form. We do not operate a cloud “money ledger” as the system of record for that data.
2.3 Bank linking (Plaid)
When you choose to link a financial institution, the App uses Plaid Inc. (“Plaid”) to obtain account and transaction data you authorize. Plaid may collect credentials or authorization directly from you as part of that flow and provide the App with the information you approve.
Plaid’s use of your information is governed by Plaid’s legal agreements and privacy policy. You should review those terms when linking an account.
Access tokens or connection material needed to refresh bank data are stored in the App’s encrypted on-device vault so you can update balances and transactions without re-entering credentials every time.
2.4 Technical & support data
Your device and our minimal technical backend may process limited technical information such as app version, basic device type, or request logs needed to keep a service healthy (for example, website or health-check hosting). We do not use this as a financial database of your transactions.
3. How we use information
- Provide budgeting, account lists, and transaction sorting features
- Authenticate you and secure access to the App
- Refresh linked account data through Plaid when you request it
- Maintain, debug, and improve the App
- Comply with law and protect against abuse
4. How we share information
We share information only as needed to run the App, including:
- Authentication: Firebase Authentication (Google) for sign-in
- Bank connectivity: Plaid for account linking and data retrieval
- Infrastructure: hosting providers that serve this website or minimal technical API endpoints (for example, health checks)—not as a permanent store of your full transaction history
- Legal: if required by law, regulation, or valid legal process
We do not sell personal information.
5. Data retention
On-device financial data remains on your device until you delete it in the App, disconnect banks, uninstall the App, or clear app storage. Plaid access tokens live only in the encrypted vault while a bank is linked and are revoked with Plaid when you disconnect or delete data (when online). Identity data in Firebase Authentication is retained while your account exists. We do not keep a cloud archive of your transaction ledger. Technical hosting logs follow provider defaults; we do not intentionally log bank access tokens.
6. Security
We use encryption for the on-device financial vault (AES), secure storage for vault keys when the OS allows, TLS for production network traffic, and Firebase/Google authentication. The App supports an optional app PIN lock as a device second factor. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure; please also protect your phone and enable Google 2-Step Verification.
7. Children
The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
8. Your choices and deletion
- Disconnect linked institutions in Settings → Institution status (revokes Plaid when online and clears local bank data)
- Delete all my data in Settings (wipes vault, revokes Plaid when possible, signs you out, attempts Firebase account deletion)
- Sign out of your account
- Uninstall the App or clear app data to remove remaining local storage
- Email support-familybudget@ktisai.com for deletion help
- Use your Google account controls for identity data managed via Firebase
- Review and manage connections through Plaid’s consumer tools where available
9. International users
The App is operated from the United States. If you use the App from another country, you understand that information may be processed in the United States or other locations where our service providers (including Firebase/Google and Plaid) operate.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the App after changes means you accept the updated policy.
